I Can’t Get No Sleep…
You had heard everyone say it hadn’t you? That having a baby would mean sleepless nights, endless feeds and a lot of crying (yours and theirs). But lets be honest nothing quite prepares you for those first few weeks, even if you have a baby who sleeps maybe 3-4 hours at a time, its still completely unnatural to keep waking up and dealing with this small person you have created. There is a lot to be said for being in my profession when it comes to first taking a baby home, because unlike most new parents you aren’t terrified (this is my job after all) and you kind of know what you are getting yourself into. That being said, its still pretty awful until you start to learn about your baby and your body learns the ability to fall asleep as soon as you have put the baby back down. Sleeping is important so lets see what we can do to help.
Over the next few pages I will endeavour to provide some ideas about good sleep habits and routines (without sounding to militant), give some troubleshooting advice for colicky babies, provide some information about Sudden Infant Death Syndrome and a little bit of information about how babies and sleep cycles work!
Hope you find it find it helpful,
